Lady Luck..Who is She
You always here about Lady Luck. I must say I have never met her. I'm not even sure she exists. If she does, she is in fact an illusive lover.
I am more inclined to believe that she is more myth than anything else. I may be in the minority, but that is still my belief. If I was a betting man, I would bet she is nothing more than a puff of smoke that players use to cover their inability to accept their own inadequacies when it comes to poker results.
I will grant you that results do occur that are beyond our control. But for the most part, poor results are a combination of factors which are under the players control. Lack of emotional control....poor starting hand selection....poor player reading abilities.....lack of game knowledge.....bad decision making. These are just some of the factors that makeup a hole in a player's game, that many need to camouflage. Many use 'Lady Luck' as the instrument in which to accomplish hiding these inadequacies.
Having an opponent draw out on you on the river is an occurance that at the time is defitnitely beyond your control. But prior to getting to the river, your decisions and actions may have caused you to be in a position for the other player to have made it that far.
One major factor in causing this situation to arise is the habit of players getting greedy and slow playing a strong hand. Anytime you let another player reach the river when you started the hand ahead, you are asking for a bad beat. And your girlfriend, Lady Luck has nothing to do with the end results.
Just realize that your results in any given playing session is more a reflection of your abilities as a player than it is of a hot seductive mysterious woman whom no one has ever really met.
